Gathering information for our family trees from our fellow family members can often be a challenge.
For several years now, I have used a simple tool at my work when I need to introduce myself to a new team or new team member. While I know that the team members will have read my resume, I want them to get to know ME. Who I am as a person, not just a job and achievements, buzz words, and work goals.
So I set out and developed this simply device I use and use and use …. and then ask them to fill in an abbreviated version to tell me a bit about themselves. It is simple, easy and nonthreatening. I go first so they know I am not looking for any deep-dark secrets, but just telling them what makes Scott tick.
Not long ago I got to thinking that this could be a nice tool with family!
And sure enough …. it worked for me like a charm! Especially with extended family and in capturing my favorite aspect of family genealogy, which is the fabric, values, culture, and WHO people are — as opposed to just names, dates, and documents!
So here were are:
I wanted to put in all my answers, but was advised that in this day and age I probably shouldn’t so these are just the questions.
I know the list is long, but you can certainly pick and chose and make a nice short list you like!
Maybe this will help break the ice, get the information flowing and the genealogy and family history information really flowing for you at your next family reunion or gathering!
Maybe everyone can enjoy going Onward To Our Past!
