First of all, I find that especially in a field like genealogy and family history not everything can be summed up in 140 characters. Nor should it!
Second, I find that not everything in genealogy and family history should be boiled down to some vapid, cute, statement, whose purpose in life is to be rebroadcast (retweeted) rather than be solid, useful advice, commentary, or subject matter.
Third, I find that one cannot do too much and still do it ALL well. I have decided, right or wrong, that I will focus on this blog and the Onward To Our Past Facebook page as the communications vehicles I will use in social media. It is a challenge to put (what at least I consider to be) worthwhile information and communication in these two places without having to then alter it to fit twitter — or worse just replace a tweet on one of these larger, more robust platforms.
Fourth, to be honest, I tire of the all-too-often junk that seems to often flow in these short tweets from folks who seem to think they simply must tweet all the time.
I am sure many will disagree with me on this subject, so have at me and let me know where or why I am wrong.
Until then ….. you will have to make do with Onward To Our Past via blog and Facebook, which I truly hope you will do!
Thanks for reading and …..
Onward To Our Past!
UPDATE: HA! I spoke too soon. While I still think most Twitter is verbal vomit, I am on @OnwardToOurPast …. so once again, never say never!
I still think that other than for breaking news way too much of Twitter is much like vomit, it is now the way of the world.
