Today’s Tip: Don’t forget to rerun your newly discovered information!
I love my satellite TV for a lot of reasons, but a big one is some of the wonderful reruns that they air. Who knew that years later I would be able to catch an episode of The Twilight Zone, Have Gun Will Travel, Car 54 Where Are You, and other classics. Plus of course, the cartoons! Actually I may like them the best! Always was partial to Chilly Willy!
Seems when I see them again, there is always something I missed the first time or I remember and get a good laugh out of it again! Either way, a rerun can be a good thing.
So it is in genealogy. We all are taught, probably in our first few discussions with anyone about family history that you should talk and ask all your questions to the family elders ASAP. Naturally, I did that. Well, in my case I thought I knew better and did a bunch of work first then when my head was swimming with names and places and dates, I got smart and called my Mom and got straightened out and my path was much improved.
I want to remind us all that as we continue to work on our family trees and family history that a rerun is in order!
Be sure to take the new names and places that you learn about and rerun them by the elders in the family!
As you discover a newly married cousin’s spouse, be sure to tell the elders in the family that new name.
Not every time, but WAY over half of the time I get some new and precious information when I run those names by these folks. It sparks some new memory or a new recall that yes, they lived down the street, or across the block. Maybe went to the same school. Who knows ….. but be sure to run, or rather rerun, those new names by your elders.
The new information can be awesome!
