Today’s Tip: As the line goes in 99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall … “take one down, pass it around”.
When I was younger I used to drive my parents near insane with egging my sisters on to sing 99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall when ever we went on long car rides. Now I am sure if it was just a trip to my grandparent‘s house, my folks really didn’t mind, but when it was two weeks in a car driving on a family vacation out to Wyoming and back, then I bet it did get on their nerves a bit.
Well, now I am a grandparent. My children sang that song in the car …. and I am sure my grandchildren will someday too! But …. I digress! What, might you say, does this have to do with genealogy and family history?
You see, I have borrowed this idea and I use it each week in my Family Updates that I email out to the 200+ family members on our family website over on MyHeritage.com.
I take one photograph ‘down’ from the website that is on someone’s profile and ‘pass it around’ to everyone. I ask for their memories from that photo, perhaps who is in a group shot if I do not have names of everyone, related stories if they care to share, etc. Anything that comes to mind when they view that photograph. Plus, on occasion, I have had folks make a major breakthrough for me on an unknown photo when they see it and recognize something, some place, or some one in the picture.
It is wonderfully amazing what a picture can elicit and how it most decidedly is worth a thousand words! Or more!
So, Take one down and pass it around!
The song is still endless and so can the value you get from this little trick.
