Today’s Tip: Volunteer!
This is a simple one. Volunteer some of your time and talent for genealogy!
We all have something that can help our community by volunteering. Maybe it is posting an answer to a message board on a subject you know, even if you aren’t working on that family line. Maybe it is helping out a newbie in a chat-room even if you have heard that question a thousand times before. Perhaps it is a photo or two for Find A Grave or Billion Graves. Perhaps it is writing a Letter to the Editor of your paper in support of your local library or thanking them for having a subscription service or other resources you used.
We all gain from the work and effort of others, so it is only fitting that we return that favor by being volunteers ourselves.
I will be starting a three-year gig on the Board of Directors of the Czechoslovak Genealogical Society International. I see this as a great way for me to return the favor my ancestors did for me by infusing me with Bohemian blood.
I will also be writing articles for some of the Societies and groups I belong to. I know how hard it can be to be the Editor of a newsletter when you are Editor, Author, graphic designer, and chief-cook-and-bottle-washer!
So volunteer. We all have some talent we can offer!
The payback is awesome!
