Today’s Tip: Never Eat Soggy Waffles ….. so take a compass along!
While I realize that we may all have GPS units, directional navigation on our phones, etc, I still have a small, cheap compass on my keyring and on my briefcase. I can not tell you how many times it has come in handy!
I found these little compasses in a surplus catalog for under 25 cents and they have earned their keep many times over for me!
I cannot tell you how many times I will be in a cemetery and my notes will say ‘northeast corner’, but on a cloudy day, it can be a challenge to find northeast!
I also cannot tell you how many times I have jumped into a car with a volunteer, stranger, or just nice person helping out and forgot my GPS, and needed to know basic directions for ‘just five miles southwest of the church’.
While I may not always have my keys with me, I always have my briefcase/satchel that holds my laptop, notes, trees, etc. So that little compass is always right there!
So for just a few cents, you can have a very valuable aid with you at all times! It has helped get me back to a motel, library, or main road many, many times!
Oh, and if you don’t know …. Never Eat Soggy Waffles …. N-E-S-W …. easy way to remember the orientation of a compass and maps as brought to you by Bob Zechman, my first Scout Masterr!
