Today’s Tip: When you get tired …. take a break, take five, take a breather, but don’t quit!
If you are like me, the search for one’s ancestors can get tiring at times. The resources start to blur, the newspapers all sound the same, names are forgotten, middle names mixed up. So at times, it seems overwhelming!
Also, if you are like me, you feel as though history has cast this upon you. I know that I am the only one who is searching for the roots to my family. There is no one I will pass this torch to. No one who will take the baton for the next leg of the race while I sit and catch my breath! Nothing motivates me more, especially given the demands of time and how it is passing.
So, when I tire. When I get fatigued. When I get overwhelmed or underwhelmed ….. I take a break, but I don’t break!
I set aside some time for another pursuit. I buy a book about a totally different topic (for me this means a mystery by one of my favorite writers) and I log off, and climb down out of the family tree for a bit.
But as I leave the tree, I make myself a note of the date and time I will be back! I put this in my Outlook and I put it on a post-it note on the edge of the computer screen.
When that time hits, I am refreshed, rejuvenated, and often times ready with some new ideas and new avenues to try as I have come at it fresh!
So …. when those times hit. Take a break. Take a breather. Take five.
But don’t quit!
