The “Harding Bohemian Genealogy Treasure Chest” is going online now at Onward To Our Past®
Recently Onward To Our Past® received what we have come to call “The Harding Bohemian Genealogy Treasure Chest”. This carton full of historic items, articles, and photographs totals an amazing 107 items. These items are all being scanned and digitally copied for preservation and then the originals will be donated to the appropriate Bohemian/Czech history archive/museum for secure storage.
We are pleased to announce that today we have three further improvements to the ‘Treasure Chest’ to announce.
First: We have established a unique location on the Onward To Our Past® website for all the ‘Treasure Chest’. When you go to our homepage, locate the navigation bar just below our logo. Hover your cursor over “eBook, Translations, & More” and a dropdown menu will appear. You will see your seven options with the newest option being ‘Harding Bohemian Genealogy Treasure Chest’. Click on that tab and you will be taken to all the entries that we have for entered as part of the ‘The Treasure Chest’.
We will also be including full explanations and stories for each new item as we add them to this brand new section of our website. Plus as an added benefit, you will find that when an item is in Czech we will provide an English translation for you.
Second: Just yesterday we received a new set of treasures to add to the Harding Bohemian Treasure Chest! This newest addition features over 20 Harding family-favorite recipes, many in their original handwriting, some transcribed, and some from newspapers from the early 1900s. Entrees, side dishes, and perhaps most delicious several desserts! It is wonderful to be able to add these old family recipes, many of which have been handed down for several generations in the Harding family. I always enjoy reading recipes to see what subtle differences families and family members can affect in foods that are often ‘family favorites’. For instance in the Italian branches of our family while everyone makes pasta sauce, everyone does it just a bit differently from each other. Each one is similar, but different, and with each one carrying its own ‘signature’. So we shall soon learn what treats are to be unveiled in this portion of ‘The Treasure Chest’ and enjoy each one.
Third: We are also building a Surname Index that will contain each personal name (surname and given name) that we uncover in the materials of ‘The Treasure Chest’. This should be a significant help to anyone who is working on their genealogy in Cleveland, Ohio and NE Ohio. This Index will include Bohemian names with and without diacritics to make for easier searching within the site. This Index will then expand to include all of the surnames we uncover in all of our work on the site, including, but not limited to, the more than 2,400 surnames found in the Hugo Chotek book translation alone. It should develop into an excellent research aid.
